Esta mesa la compré de una tienda de beneficencia en Richmond que se encarga de dar trabajo y formación a gente sin un futuro laboral. Me paseé por la tienda, como hago de tanto en cuanto, y cuando la vi, supe que se vendría conmigo en mi cochecito ese mismo día. Modernizar la mesa de café fue un proyecto facilísimo.
Me gustaba mucho el grabado de las patas y el borde así que decidí darle un toque bicolor. A las patas les di un betún de Judea para devolverles un poco de vida y luego apliqué un barniz protector en spray. El borde de la mesa lo pinté con Old White de Annie Sloan, una pintura ecológica muy fácil de utilizar que no requiere lijado o imprimación. Para darle un toque envejecido, luego apliqué un poco de betún de Judea con un trapo de algodón, pasándolo suavemente y quitando el exceso de betún.
Finalmente, le apliqué una cera protectora sin color. Como la mesa venía con cristal, se me ocurrió ponerle una base diferente para hacerla un poco más actual. En Pinterest hay multitud de ideas para inspirarse; mi base parece tela de paja o papel pintado, pero ¡no es más que un trozo cortado a medida de un mantel que compré en una tienda de todo a un euro!

Two-colour coffee table by Lirios
I bought this coffee table from a charity shop in Richmond which employs and trains unemployed people to give them skills to help them return to work. I was wandering around the shop, as I do from time to time and, when I saw it, I knew that it would come back home with me in my little car that very same day.
Modernising the table was a very easy project. I really liked the detailed carving on the legs and the edges so I decided to give the table a two-colour touch. I dyed the legs with dark wood stain to put some life back into them and then I applied a coat of polyurethane spray to protect them. The top and edges of the table were painted with Annie Sloan’s Old White paint, an ecological paint that is very easy to use and does not require sanding or applying a primer. To give it a distressed look, I also stained the edge with the same wood stain using a cotton cloth, rubbing it softly and removing any stain excess.
Finally, I applied a clear wax to protect the piece of furniture. As the table came with a glass top, I had the idea of putting a different base in order to make it a little more modern. In Pinterest there are many ideas to get inspiration from; my base looks like straw material or painted paper but it is only a piece of a plastic mantel piece that I bought in a pound shop.
