Hace algo más de un año, antes de plantearme esto de tener mi propio blog, estaba pintando a marchas forzadas este armario en un piso que se iba a poner en alquiler. El pobre mueble estaba en un comedor pequeño al final de un largo pasillo y daba a un patio con bastante luz, pero, debido a la altura del piso, no tenía precisamente mucha luminosidad, y era el típico mueble de salón en color madera oscura que hacía más pequeño y aún más triste aquel comedor.
El mueble estaba en perfecto estado y la dueña no quería tirarlo, así que di con la solución de pintarlo en un tono algo más atrevido, y estuve dudando entre pintarlo en color menta sacando los detalles en beige, que era una propuesta un poco más campestre, o bien en este azul cielo que quizás le aportaba un toque más «señorial» y que fue por el que finalmente me decidí tras llegar a la conclusión de que pegaba más con la estancia y con el resto del piso en general.
En esta ocasión no usé la Chalk Paint de Annie Sloan, sino pintura de toda la vida, por lo que tuve que lijar, dar imprimación y varias capas de color. Le di protagonismo al interior pintándolo del mismo color que los detalles, en un tono beige tirando muy sutilmente a la gama de los amarillos, que le aportó calidez y luminosidad.
Como veis, nada tienen que ver el antes y el después. ¡La sensación de entrar en el comedor es completamente distinta e invita a quedarse!

Painted dining room cabinet
Over a year ago, before I was even considering the idea of creating my own blog, I was in a hurry to finish painting this dining room cabinet in a flat that was going to be rent out. The poor thing was in a small room at the end of a long corridor and the room itself didn’t have too much light, so this classic style piece of furniture made the place even darker and smaller.
The cabinet was in excellent condition and the owner didn’t want to throw it away, so I came up with the solution of painting it with a bright colour. I doubted whether to use mint and beige, a more country-style combination, or blue and beige. I finally made up my mind and decided to paint it with the latter, because I believed it’d give it a more majestic look, better matching the style of the flat.
On this occasion I didn’t use Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint, so I had to sand it, use primer and paint over and over… I wanted to emphasize the inner part of the cabinet and I also highlighted the mouldings in a close-to-yellow beige, to provide some warmth and brightness to the room.
You wouldn’t even think we’re talking about the same piece of furniture, the feeling you get when entering the room has completely changed and it welcomes you to stay.
