Mis primeros trabajos con la Chalk Paint de Annie Sloan

El 2014 comenzó pillándome desmelenada: nuevo trabajo, nuevos amigos y compañeros, nuevos horarios, cocina vespertina… y ahora en verano, sigo estando desmelenada: la niña que irremediablemente crece y descubre nuevas cosas cada día, preparación ante el inminente comienzo de la guardería y cambio de cocina en casa… Las horas del día siguen sin alcanzarme para materializar todas las ideas que llevo en la cabeza.

Hoy quería enseñaros uno de los trabajos en los que he estado ocupada y que he ido haciendo a ratos. No sé si se apreciará por la luz de la foto, pero esta librería/estantería de madera (antes color marrón oscuro de toda la vida) ha adquirido un aire mucho más contemporáneo y alegre con la combinación de las pinturas Chalk Paint Barcelona Orange y Country Grey de Annie Sloan, rebajadas con Old White.

La verdad es que me costó bastante pintarla: además de cansado por ser un trabajo mayoritariamente en vertical e incómodo al estar fijado a la pared, inicialmente lijé y di imprimación a la madera, pensando que acabaría el trabajo antes de que llegara mi pedido de Annie Sloan, pero al final me retrasé, y llegó la pintura justo cuando había aplicado la imprimación, así que decidí arriesgar y pintar el fondo con un Barcelona Orange mezclado con Old White. Pensé que, aunque quedara un poco más «chillón», al ocuparla con libros no se apreciaría tanto y daría alegría a ese rincón del salón, que no es especialmente luminoso. Para las baldas y el marco, así como el armario inferior y los cajones, utilicé el Country Grey también rebajado con Old White y le saqué los detalles en naranja ayudándome con cinta de carrocero.

Después de varias capas, apliqué cera transparente para fijar la pintura, lo que oscureció algo el tono de la mezcla.  Aunque el acabado de las pinturas Chalk Paint me guste más sin cera, si quiero que se conserve hay que aplicarla! En cualquier caso, la paleta de colores de Annie Sloan me parece inigualable, así que creo que el resultado mereció la pena.  ¡Espero que os guste!

My first projects with ASCP

(Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint®)

2014 caught me a bit out of control: new job, new colleagues and friends, new schedule, evening cooking… you’d think I’d have got used to it by summer, but I’m still struggling against time: the baby growing and growing, getting ready to start nursery, plus we are having our kitchen refurbished soon. These past months have been hectic and days haven’t got enough hours for me to do all the things I’d like to.

I wanted to show you something I’ve been working on. I hope you get the idea because the light in the photos isn’t great: this bookcase (originally varnished wood) became a completely new item by using the combination of Annie Sloan’s Barcelona Orange and Country Grey both whitened with Old White.

I won’t lie to you, it was a hard job. The top bit was really tiring plus I had to paint in a difficult position as the wall was to my left and I’m right-handed… that’s what you get when dealing with a built-in piece of furniture.  I initially sanded it and applied some primer but I got my ASCP order sooner than expected, so I took the risk and painted the structure and shelves in Country Grey whereas  background and details went orange.  I didn’t feel like having it too bright but it really needed some light and protagonism and I thought orange is quite bright a colour but would fade behind the books on the shelves.

I applied a few layers of paint and then used clear wax to fix the paint. The wax always makes the paint become darker and I think it gives a less natural look, but if you want ASCP to last, you have to apply the wax. That being said, ASCP colour range is amazing, so tasteful and more elegant than any other paint I have seen… it’s definitely worth it!
